Kinney left this world May 27, 2016 at the home he shared with his younger brother Joel King. He departed just months after the passing of his mother, whom he loved dearly.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            In his short 45 years on this Earth, Phillip touched the lives of countless people. Phillip was always found with a smile on his face, and possessed a strong thirst for life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Phillip was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on February,18, 1971. He was Linda King's firstborn son; the oldest of the King brothers. He was the step-son of Walter King, who cared for Phillip from the time he was a young child. Even though they fought like brothers always do, Joel and Michael Kinney never doubted his love for them.
Growing up, Phillip's passion was sports. He was gifted athlete, playing many sports, but it was football where he would make his name. From his days at Crosby Park  Elementary, to Eisenhower Junior and Eisenhower High School,
Phillip excelled on the gridiron. As a Senior in high school, Phillip was one of the leaders who pushed Eisenhower High win the 1990 USA Today National  Championship. It's still the only time a team from Oklahoma has every accomplished such a feat, and something he was very proud of. The friendships he made on that team lasted throughout his life. They were not just teammates, they were his brothers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Phillip was named Lineman of the tear and went on to sign a football scholarship at the University of Oklahoma. However, he had to go the Junior College path before playing winding up playing two years at Southwest Missouri Baptist.

Phillip battled personal demons during his adult life, some lead him searching for a path to direct his life, ultimately away from football. But no matter how many times Phillip fell, he always found a way to get back up and believe he would turn his life around.

The turning point came August 7th 2006 in his daughter Alyssa's birth. She was the love of his life and his inspiration for becoming the man he always knew he could be.

When Phillip passed away, he had been clean and sober for more than two years, He re-established his faith in God and went to church he could. The innocent goal he created as an 18 year-old were far surpassed. He was a man who saw the good in others and never gave up on his friends or himself.

Phillip leaves behind a daughter, Alyssa; two brothers, Joel King and Michael Kinney; a step-father, Walter King; an uncle, James Green and his wife, Veronica Green; cousin Janelle Williams, Clayton Green, Saundra Lucas, Nicole Lucas, and Stacy Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda King; grandmother, Helen Green; his Aunt Rosemary Green; and his uncle, John Green.
