Joann Cotton

November 13, 1946 — July 5, 2009

Jo Ann Cotton was born November 13, 1946 to M.C. McClellon and Jessie Mae Smith in San Francisco, California. Jo Ann accepted Christ at an early age and while living with her dad M.C. McClellon and step-mother Earnestine McClellon in Oklahoma City she united with Greater Marshall Memorial. After relocating back to Oklahoma City she united with Quayle United Methodist Church and remained an active member until her health failed. She attended elementary and graduated at the age of 16 from Riverside High School in Harris, Oklahoma. After graduation she attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. On October 7, 1967 Jo Ann married the love of her life William Cotton and to this union two children, Candace Camille and Christopher William Cotton were born. Due to the military career of her husband, the Cotton family lived in various cities in the U.S. and also lived in Germany. Although Jo Ann was able to travel during her husband's military career she and her husband chose to make Oklahoma City their home after her husband's retirement so they could be near family. After relocating to Oklahoma City she continued her career with the federal government and retired January 1, 2007 as Items Manager. Her passions were cooking for and feeding the homeless several times throughout the year and working with the Shoe Box ministries and encouraged others to participate with this ministry. Jo Ann was also an active member of the Red Hat Society. One of her most important roles was being a proud grandmother. Among all things she loved and cherished her grandchildren. Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, William; daughter, Candace (Devone) Turner of Midwest City, OK; son, Christopher (Tammy) Cotton of Midwest City, OK; mother, Jessie Mae Jackson and Step-father Charlie Jackson of LaMesa, TX; Step-mother, Earnestine McClellon of Oklahoma City, OK; siblings: Brent (Tammy) Jackson of LaMesa TX, Charles (Edith) Jackson of LaMesa, TX, Margaret Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK, Karen Jackson of LaMesa, TX, Cheryl Jackson of LaMesa, TX, Thelma (Billy) Jackson of LaMesa, TX, Michael McClellon of Yukon, OK, Cedric McClellon of Yukon, OK, Brenda (Arnold) Droke of Edmond, OK; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
