Waymon Wilson was born August 19, 1938 to William and Mary Wilson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On June 23, 2009, Waymon went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers. Waymon was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He attended Dunbar Elementary School and Douglass High School through the 11th grade. He joined the Marine Corp. in 1955 and served 17 years and retired in 1972, temporarily, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Waymon's personal awards include letters of appreciation, Meritorious Mast, Navy Unit Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Award Medal with four stars. Waymon started working for the Veteran's Administration Hospital during his temporary retirement from the Marine Corp. He also worked for 12 years at the Vet Center, because he was wounded in Vietnam. He was medically retired in 1977 with an honorable discharge, giving him over 30 years of government service. Tours of duty included Okinawa Japan, Hong Kong, Camp Pendleton, San Diego and two combat tours in Vietnam. Waymon was a life member of Blacks in Government, Big Board of Directors, NAACp, Vietnam Era Veterans Inter-Tribal Association, Urban League, Civic Community Leadership, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans of America. Waymon leaves to cherish his memory four daughters: Loverta Henderson of Oklahoma City, OK, Mary Donna Wilson of Palmdale, CA, Cle-Vaughn Dayne Wilson of San Diego, CA, and Cleo Dawn Bynum of Los Angeles, CA; three sons: Waymon Wilson, Jr. of San Diego, CA, Cedric Cleondrous Caldwell of Baton Rouge, LA, Cleon Oliver Caldwell of San Diego, CA; four brothers: Wilbert Wilson of Victorville, CA, Wayne Wilson of North Carolina, Walter Wilson of Oklahoma City, OK, and William Wilson; two sisters, Doris Littleton and Dorothy Wilkerson of Oklahoma City, OK; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
