Betty Jean Watkins, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009 in the Skyview Nursing Home, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was "exceptional" in that she was born in Stringtown, Oklahoma, September 23, 1937 to three mothers: Octavia (O.T.), Aunt Naomi, and AuntViola. As you can imagine, she grew up spoiled rotten and literally moved from home-to-home at her choosing. Later in life, Betty moved to Oklahoma City and began a family that grew to five lovely children. Betty became known for her delicious cooking, as well as a person that loved family and friends. For example, she opened up her home to one of her brothers that moved to Oklahoma City and she quickly let him know who was in charge, "Big Sis." Years later, Betty's health began to fail and she was later placed in her aunt Viola Stevenson's nursing home facility where she remained until death. Betty's attitude truly mirrored the apostle Paul; she was content with her health conditions and never complained about anything. Betty Jean's life depicted a valuable lesson for all- to be content in all circumstances. She was always happy and happier if she had a cheeseburger, a diet drink, a telephone, and a television. When Betty spoke, everyone listened, whether you wanted to or not. She gave instructions with timelines. She even told everyone when to come and visit, as well as when to leave. She especially looked forward to her Unde Lawrence's visit all the way from Stringtown, OK, in which she enjoyed for the last time-just five days before her demise. Betty's love especially extended to the Skyview Nursing Home staff and to Lavelle Watkins' children. Betty united with Holy Temple Baptist Church, under the pastorage of Reverend R. M. LeffaII, Sr. However, she soon became confined to the bed and was never active. Betty Jean will be greatly missed! She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Orlando. She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters: Carol Watkins, Stephanie Baskerville (Earl), Marilyn Cargle (Eddie), all of Oklahoma City, OK; two sons, Ricky Watkins of Oklahoma City,OK and Reggie Jerome Watkins of Iowa; six grandchildren:Lamont, Latoya, Timothy, Odis, Christina, and Artis; 17 great-grandchildren: Windell, Dough, Laearl, Adam, Dothera, Chriee, Angle, Victor, Victoria, DeShawn, Sabra, Cionysus, Keandrea, Trinti, Xavion, Larrion, and Tyrus; five brothers: Floyd (Linda), Harold (Kindred), Larry, and Darrell; one sister, Christine Harrison (Kenneth) all of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister-in-law, Brenda; a host offirst cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
